I wrote this when I was in high school, inspired by who knows what. Five short pieces, different reflections on nature, etc. etc. Yeah. (you can tell I'm really enthusiastic about this, can't you x_x)

SKETCHES OF NATURE: I

Night. Cold winds caress the mountaintop. Snow crunches under light footsteps. Tall trees wait in the distance, shadows on the landscape, undefined, uneven black blots of paint on a dark gray canvas. Ghostly shapes of mountain peaks drift amid the thin, layered wisps of cloud. The lonely cry of a night predator echoes on the still air. And echoes. And echoes until the wind swirls around it, sweeps it away with a trail of silence behind. Listen to the stillness.
As far as the eye can see, there is nothing but snow. A white plain stretching to the horizon. Pure white. It glistens in the shimmering moonbeams playing upon its glassy silver surface. Beautiful. Like an angel's wings in the moonlight. Tiny crystals, splinters of light, hang in the frozen air. Listen to the stillness.
And far above, even vaster still, a brilliant field of stars. Turn your eyes to the heavens as the breeze prickles your cheeks with icy needles. The stars stretch onward forever in a dazzling display through the deep blackness. Eternal, endless blackness broken only by those fiery jewels hung upon heaven's crown. Listen to the stillness.
        I hear the stars singing.
