SKETCHES OF NATURE: V
The sand is smooth and wet from the night's high tide. Shiver. The damp fog rolls onward, silent as a soft whisper, over the gray sea. Small waves break upon the beach, barely visible in the mist. The dreary monotony of colorless sound hits your ears with a loud silence. No movement. It is the time before the dawn.
The fog thins, spreading out, burning away in the warming air. The silence now is peaceful. Ahead, over the open ocean, a feeble tint of pink emerges. The gray fades to a pale silver. The rosy glow brightens, spreading over the ruby clouds, onto the drab sea. Spears of shimmering mauve stab across the sky.
Then, as sudden as the bursting of a flower into full bloom, the sky explodes with light. White light, orange, ruby, cyan, bright gold, molten silver. The bright luminescence spills over onto the dark waves, lighting them with an inner fire of flashing sapphire and emerald. The sand sparkles with blinding, blazing light. And the sun bursts over the horizon, heralding the new day.
Stretch out your hands to the far distance where the emerald sea meets the flaming sky, and be glad for the miracle of life.
